The Professional Fellowship scheme aims to support the professional development of key practitioners in Fleming Fund countries, in both human health and animal health sectors, who play an important role in implementing AMR and AMU surveillance. The scheme will provide training, coaching and mentoring to improve fellows' skills and leadership capacity in gathering quality AMR diagnostic data, AMR and AMU data collection and management, analysis and use of surveillance results.

Beneficiary Institutions & Fellowships:
AMR Surveillance Fellowship – Human Health at National Public Health Laboratory
- Produce scientifically robust evidence of AMR patterns in human bacterial infections from AMR surveillance data
- Interpret this together with evidence from other sectors to inform future surveillance priorities within the human, animal and environmental health sectors
- Inform policies or actions to reduce the incidence of AMR in Nepal
AMR Surveillance Fellowship – Animal Health at Directorate of Animal Health
- Produce scientifically robust evidence of AMR patterns in animals from AMR surveillance data
- Interpret this together with evidence from other sectors to inform future surveillance priorities within the human, animal and environmental health sectors
- To inform policies or actions to reduce the incidence of AMR in Nepal
Laboratory Fellowship – Human Health at National Public Health Laboratory
- Strengthen One Health AMR surveillance in Nepal by strengthening the accuracy of pathogen identification and Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing results produced by the NPHL and the human surveillance sites
Laboratory Fellowship – Animal Health at Central Veterinary Laboratory (CVL)
- Strengthen One Health AMR surveillance in Nepal by strengthening the accuracy of pathogen identification and Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing results produced by the CVL and the Regional Veterinary Laboratories participating in AMR surveillance
AMU Surveillance Fellowship – Human Health at National Academy of Medical Science, Bir Hospital
- Produce scientifically robust evidence of AMU practices in hospitals and other healthcare settings
- Work with clinicians to promote data use in changing antibiotic prescribing practices
- Interpret AMU surveillance data together with evidence from AMR surveillance to inform future AMR and AMU surveillance priorities within the human, animal and environmental health sectors
- Provide data and results to inform policies or actions regarding responsible AMU to reduce the threat of AMR in Nepal
AMU Surveillance Fellowship – Animal Health at Directorate of Animal Health
- Produce scientifically robust evidence of AMU patterns in livestock production sectors (including fisheries where relevant)
- Interpret this together with AMU and AMR results from other sectors to inform future surveillance priorities within the human, animal and environmental health sectors
- Provide data and results to inform policies or actions regarding responsible AMU to reduce the threat of AMR in Nepal
- Strengthen the accuracy and completeness of AMU data reported by Nepal to the World Organisation for Animal Health
